Baba Farid University of Health Sciences received authorization through an Act of the Legislature of Punjab State during July, 1998. The main goal of the University aims to provide an ideal learning environment for free information sharing between different faculties and between the University and similar education institutions across India and overseas which creates worldwide access for health professionals.
The Punjab Government receives credit as the entity responsible for building this institution which stands as the fifth in India and the first in northern parts of Punjab. The urgent demand for better healthcare professionals with improved standards became obvious because of inadequate health professional numbers. This University needs to act as a leading establishment by developing suitable healthcare models and delivery systems. University operates with the vision to supply Community oriented need based education & Training programmes for Health professionals.

Raja Balinder Singh, the Punjab Governor officially approved all academic distinctions obtained through degrees and diplomas issued by this University starting from July 1st 1999.
The Indian government has approved the degrees distributed through Baba Farid University of Health Sciences after recommendations from NMC/DCI/INC etc.
